FAQ
What most people ask:

What conditions do you treat?
Dr. Devine’s broad experience allows her to treat a wide variety of issues and solve problems that may be complicated for specialists to identify. Her expertise includes, but is not limited to autoimmune diseases, digestive disorders, prediabetes/diabetes, thyroid diseases, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, inflammation, cancer survivorship, skin conditions, chronic fatigue, and more.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
Yes, Zoom or phone appointments are available for North Carolina residents. Typically, your first appointment is held in the office, but follow-up appointments can be virtual or in-person, based on your preference.
We use a HIPAA-compliant platform that keeps our calls secure and your data safe.
Will you be my primary care physician?
No, you will need to maintain your relationship with your primary care physician. Dr. Devine provides integrative consults, not acute or primary care. We also encourage you to take full advantage of your insurance for covered services to keep your health care costs as affordable as possible.
Dr. Devine focuses on helping you heal by evaluating the root causes of illness and guiding you on your own path to wellness, which should complement the care you are already receiving from other providers.
We do not prescribe opiates, benzodiazepines or other controlled substances.
Is this alternative medicine?
We don’t use the term “alternative medicine” to define what we do because it implies a rejection of conventional medicine. Dr. Devine has a deep foundation in understanding the body and disease from her training in Family Medicine. Integrative medicine incorporates proven, complementary health approaches into mainstream health care.
We believe our current system does not focus enough on the root cause of disease or on prevention and lifestyle. There is more to offer patients with chronic disease than just prescription medication and integrative medicine gives us more “tools in the toolbox.”
What is your insurance policy?
This is an insurance-free practice. The insurance model rewards high-volume, quick visits and procedures, which is the exact opposite of the goals of integrative medicine. We want to get to know you and give you time to ask questions. You may want to check with your employer to see if you can use HSA funds to help offset the cost of your visits. We can supply you with a “superbill” with appropriate ICD-10 codes if you have commercial insurance so that you can submit it for possible out-of-network benefits. However, we do not contact insurance companies on your behalf.
By not taking insurance we can give you the personalized attention and the time it takes to really address all the issues that may be impacting your health.
We do not work with Medicare and Medicaid. We have “opted-out” which means that in order to see Dr. Devine you must sign a contract that states you will not seek reimbursement for any of our services.
How do I make an appointment?
First, schedule a free discovery call to learn more about Dr. Devine and how the practice works. This step is required, to make sure we are a good fit for each other.
If you decide you would like to partner with us, we will send you a link to create a new patient chart. Our goal is to learn as much as possible about you so that we can develop a personalized integrative plan that addresses your whole health. You will get instructions to fill out forms, complete a questionnaire, and upload results of your recent tests. If needed, we will send you a release of records so that we may review any pertinent office notes, imaging, and testing that you may have had from other providers, if you do not have access to that information.
Once we receive your medical records and a deposit for a new patient appointment you will be contacted to schedule your appointment.
